Dr. Brian Taylor
Marching Band Director


Brian Stevon Taylor holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. He has taught in both middle and high school bands in Alabama and Georgia. Dr. Taylor’s marching and concert bands consistently received superior ratings in contest and festival formats. While in Georgia, he worked with the Lassiter High School Band, Mr. Alfred Watkins, director. In 1998 Dr. Taylor began his studies at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. As a student of Dr. Tom Fraschillo, he earned the Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting in 1999 and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Instrumental Conducting in 2008. While at Southern Mississippi, Dr. Taylor conducted the University Concert Band, assisted with the Pride of Mississippi Marching Band and guest conducted the Wind Ensemble on several occasions.

Currently, Dr. Taylor is the marching band director at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. His duties include directing the 250 member Pride of Acadiana Marching Band, Conductor for both the University Symphonic Winds and University Concert Band, Director of the Ragin' Brass Basketball Bands, and Director of the UL Lafayette Winter Guard. His classroom assignments comprise basic conducting, marching band techniques, secondary instrumental methods, and music appreciation. In addition to performances at Walt Disney World and 2004 Governor’s Inaugurations, the Pride of Acadiana performed in the 2005 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and appeared on NBC’s Today Show. In April 2009, members of the Pride traveled to Edinburgh, Scotland and London, Englad for a performance tour. Dr. Taylor creates the visual program for UL and several high school band programs.



Dr. Taylor holds memberships with the National Band Association, College Band Director's National Association, Music Educator's National Conference, College Music Society, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Phi Delta Kappa Professional Education Society, and Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society. Currently, he is the Louisiana State Representative for CBDNA and is responsible for the annual Louisiana Intercollegiate Honor Band. He was also a member of the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps from Rockford, Illinois in 1988 and 1989.
