    Marching Band
     
    Q: How much does the Pride practice?
    A: The marching band rehearses three days a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for 2 hours. On home game days, rehearsals are held at the stadium for two hours. Color guard and percussion hold a sectional one night per week. Winds rehearse in sectional every other week.

    Q: Are there any summer rehearsals?
    A: Band Camp starts one week before the first day of class. There are no other summer practices.

    Q: Do you travel to all of the away games?
    A: Usually, the Pride travels to one away game per year. We may also send a pep band to another, but participation is voluntary.

    Q: Are there any band fees or costs?
    A: Each marcher is required to purchase their own shoes, gloves, mouthpiece, sticks or mallets, and rifles. For band camp, there is a $20 fee to cover meals. All other regular travel costs are covered by the band.

    Q: What does the Housing Waiver cover?
    A: The Housing Waiver pays for the basic cost of the dorm. It does not cover the meal plan. Currently the waiver is worth $1015 per semester. If the cost of the basic dorm goes up, so will the waiver. The waiver can only be used for on campus dorms and Legacy Park Apartments.

    Q: Is there a band dorm?
    A: No, there are no designated areas for band. You are responsible to reserve your dorm room. A housing application and deposit must be sent to UL Housing. .

    Q: I have a required class that is offered at the same time as marching band. Can I still participate?
    A: If the course that conflicts is a one class offering, is for your major, and will delay your progress toward graduation, we allow you to participate in band. The course conflict must not be more that 50% of the rehearsals during the week.

    Q: When are auditions?
    A: Auditions are held every October for the 2 basketball bands.

    Q: Are there scholarships available?
    A: 30 stipends are available for each basketball band. The stipend spots are competitive and are worth $250 in the spring semester. All members are given a hamburger or hot dog, potato chips, and a drink during each half time.

    Q: What games do the Ragin Brass perform?
    A: Both men's and women's groups perform for approximately 10-12 home games. There is no travel for regular season games. The bands usually do not perform for games during semester break.

    Q: Are there tournament performances?
    A: A travel group of 30 players will go to the Sun Belt Basketball Conference Tournament. If either team is selected for the NCAA or NIT Tournaments, we will send a band of 30 for those appearances.

    Q: When do the basketball bands practice?
    A: Each basketball band has rehearsals during marching band time towards the end of the marching season. Once the playbook is learned, the bands meet occasionally on Monday nights to review or learn new material.

    Wind Ensemble/Symphonic Band/Concert Band
     
    Q: How much does each band rehearse?
    A: Both the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds meet for 1 hour and 15 minutes twice a week. Each has an outside sectional for woodwinds and brass alternating. The Concert Band meets for 50 minutes three times a week.

    Q: When are auditions?
    A: Wind Ensemble auditions are held in August the week of band camp and the first week of class. Wind Ensemble auditions serve both the Fall and Spring semesters. If there is an opening, an audition may be held for that position in the spring.

    Symphonic Winds and Concert Band auditions are in October. These two bands only meet in the Spring semester.

    Q: Are there additional scholarships available for the concert groups?
    A: Yes, these are available to those participating in Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Winds. To qualify, you must not be receiving any other scholarship from band. The award if $400 for Wind Ensemble per semester and $300 for Symphonic Winds. If you would like to know if you could qualify for these awards, ask Dr. Taylor.

    Q: When are auditions?
    A: Auditions are held at the end of marching season, usually after the Showcase of Marching Bands.

    Q: Do you have to be a member of the marching band?
    A: No you do not. But, the training from marching band does help skill levels in preparation.

    Q: Are there scholarships available?
    A: Currently only housing waivers are available for winter guard participants.
